So, Microsoft's new console is the Xbox One (or Xbawks Won, as the presenters liked to say).
It allows me to watch TV on my TV (revolutionary!), well, it'll allow Americans to use it as a cable box, whether that will make it overseas is to be seen. And they are changing the face of television... And innovation to "make Xbox your home for sports *if you are American*"... Oh.Dear.Lord....
Throughout the conference there was the implication across everything that the console is always connected to the internet, through the multiple mentions of living, breathing game worlds, cloud saves and trending entertainment, but no solid confirmation or denial which is worrying.
Theres also all the talk of the new Kinect. It appears to be much more advanced and able to see things much better, and as Marc Whitten says, "Lag Free", which I'll believe when I see it...
Also, how does it work with standard sized living rooms? At the minute the current Kinect needs to use the Nyko Zoom to be able to work in my living room otherwise I would have to be standing on the sofa to play, so hopefully I'll be able to use the Kinect 2.0 without a third party accessory.
As for the games, or lack thereof. Was it just me or did they all look a bit... off? There was a definite CGI trailer sheen to them all. Hopefully that was just the compression / stream quality but I fear that the "ingame" footage was nothing more than the Killzone debacle all over again. It all looks a bit firmly rooted in the uncanny valley, and don't existing games look more photorealistic? I'm sure NBA 06 looked better than these new EA sports games...
Oh, don't forget the CoD exclusive reveal....
Next Gen animation: - Slide, Mantle, Lean...??? Dishonored says "Hello"
Shame there wasn't more game footage, but that's what E3 is for...
Still not sure about the PS4 or the Xbox One, both seem to be a bit too..erm, trying to hard. I'm happy with what my Xbox 360 and PS3 do, you know play games, without all this social nonsense. But if it all helps make better games, then what the hell...
